ACLU People Power

Our first meeting was held on Saturday, March 11 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Hmong Cultural and Community Center. There were about 65 participants for the live stream training which focused on immigrants' rights.

The goal of this meeting was to convene local civil rights activists, train them in basic rights, provide resources, such as the ACLU's Know Your Rights guides, distribute the Nine Model Rules for local communities, and plan for the next steps.

One participant agreed to set up a meeting with La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat to discuss the Nine Model Rules with the ultimate goal of having our community agree to operate using these policies in order to protect the rights and privacy of immigrants in our community.

Following that meeting, there will be another large group meeting. If you have questions, please email.
