Today, we're planning to participate in the National HANDS OFF Day events with a visibility event at the corner of Losey Boulevard and State Road from noon to 2 p.m. Please check out these safety reminders as you plan to join us.
WHO KEEPS US SAFE? WE KEEP US SAFE!
This is a nonviolent visibility event, sometimes called a "honk and wave." No speakers, no program - come when you can and leave when you have to!
BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:
- Charge your phone, take your meds, eat lunch, fill a water bottle
- Dress for the weather & prepare to walk and stand
- Make a protest sign (or grab one of our extras!)
- Have a plan for how to get there and back -- we highly recommend you walk, bike, or take public transportation if you can (Bus lines 1-2, 2-1 and 4 can get you to us!) or park on a side street. We will be spreading north along Losey as the crowd goes, so if you're traveling by car, consider parking on side streets. We can't be responsible for what happens if you park at a nearby business! SPREAD OUT ALONG THE SIDEWALKS!
DURING THE EVENT:
- Find a spot that doesn’t block automobile, bicycle, or pedestrian traffic – stay OFF the streets and medians, do not block sidewalks or driveways
- Watch out for & take care of others - stick together!
- Make a new friend - this is a great opportunity to get connected
- Ask permission before taking or sharing photos or videos of others
- DISENGAGE AND DE-ESCALATE Do not engage with counter protestors - turn away or move away from them
AFTER THE EVENT:
- Leave when it’s over! We’re done at 2 p.m. - help each other get home safely!
- Visit a nearby local business to show them your support
- Check out couleeprogressives.org for other ways to get involved
